The Vision
Whitianga Waterways was conceived following consultation with local community and Council by arguably New Zealand’s most experienced and reputable coastal development company, Hopper Developments Ltd, in partnership with local land owners.
Their objective was to create New Zealand’s most attractive, comprehensively planned, ecologically sound coastal community, built around an extensive canal network with sufficient appeal to encourage a broad expression of New Zealand’s housing, social and lifestyle diversity.
When complete, Waterways will comprise in excess of 1500 new households.
The developers drew from their experience at Pauanui and extensive investigations abroad to produce a concept which was tailor made for Whitianga’s unique location.
The overall impression will be an extensive residential canal network displaying a variety of home types, dotted with trees, small neighborhood beaches and open recreational spaces. A cornerstone of the dream is the creation of amenities to attract and sustain a vibrant local community.
The plan encompasses boutique retail options, health care facilities, marine services, sports fields and amenities, retirement living and associated services. When complete, its innovation and standard of presentation will serve as a benchmark others will strive to achieve.
